Our leading protective workshop, Care Craft Lansdowne, has embarked on an exciting journey of production and design. The workshop was chosen to manufacture a new product, The Department of Arts & Culture, Interactive Africa, and the Design Indaba are the team players responsible for making this initiative a reality. The integration of good design and physically challenged artisans is something that is quite common in Europe. The team’s hope was that through implementation of good design they could elevate the market position of the local production workshop with this new product. Care Craft Lansdowne was chosen to partner in this exciting venture, but opportunities like these don’t come without challenges, yet ingenuity won and a winning product was born…hich was launched and exhibited at the 2007 Design Indaba.

Fund Development at EPILEPSY WESTERN CAPE

Epilepsy is an unseen foe and it’s a huge challenge securing funding for a condition not constantly visible. As an organisation actively seeking methods of self-sustainability in our projects, we also need to face the reality of acquiring costs to keep the Regional Office - our engine room - alive to continue our work here in the Western Cape.

There's hope

Whilst some individuals are scarred by rumours of fraud and pretences, there is an armada of carers and givers. We are grateful to everyone who aid the organisation and contributes to growth and development. Without your support, we would not be able to carry out the enormous task of eradicating stigma, and giving people hope to live normal lives.

Thank you to all who participate in our fundraising initiatives and benevolently give their time and offerings toward increasing awareness of epilepsy and dealing with seizures.

Action Stations

Fundraising exercises that we depend on annually include street collections, Casual Day, and the Cape Town Marathon.

Casual Day 2006

Our Casual Day sticker sales soared to a whopping 10 090! This equates to R100 900, that Epilepsy South Africa, Western Cape Branch had contributed toward the national 2006 Casual Day Campaign! Thanks to all participating teams and individuals. You really went the extra mile to help us reach our goal, which was to sell at least 10 000 stickers.

This year we would like to sell 15 000 and are depending on you for your participation and support. If your place of work does not already support an organisation, please give our Western Cape branch a call on 021 703 9420 and we will get you started!

Sandscapes 2007

The Sandscapes event, (sandcastle building) took place on Sunday the 18th March 2007 at Sunrise Beach, Muizenburg. The beach was packed with hundreds of people from various communities and the kids enjoyed the games that were co-ordinated by CYT (Certificate of Youth Trainers). Our chairman of the Board, Prof Roland Eastman was in attendance to welcome everybody and the local ward counselor Mr Demetri Qually did the opening address. Good Hope FM was pulsating the excitement with a live broadcast from the beach thus ensuring that everybody was informed about epilepsy and of the programmes rendered by Epilepsy South Africa!

The highlight of the day was the sandcastle competition. Seven teams participated and ABSA Bank won the first prize. Congratulations to ABSA team! A special thanks goes to Esme Kennel, our Vice Chairperson who had the daunting task of judging the sandcastle competition and for doing the closure. Well done to all our partners who assisted us in making this the first of many “Sandscapes” events. Hope to see you there next year. We will keep you posted on future events and happenings.

The fund development department at Regional Office provides a supportive roll to the social work team, their projects and our protective workshops - and therein lies the challenge - to adequately procure funding for various cost centres and maintain relevant wish-lists.
